Oh my goodness I am laughing so hard at myself right now.

I came up with this idea that acquiring a friend’s unused Omlet coop would be perfect for raising my babies in until they are big enough to integrate with my big girls.

They are 3 weeks old and can go out during the day and come in at night for now.

Today the Omlet arrives and gets set up in the big girls’ run. It fits along the fence like I thought. I set up the babies food and water. I moved the babies (15 of them) from their brooder in the guest bedroom out to the Omlet using a cat carrier. All day they ran around so happily in there. Doing flight tests in the long space. Frolicking. Watching my big girls and our roo Floppy. After dinner I decide it’s time to go back inside. I go out there with the cat carrier.

I realize I have no idea how to get them back out of there. Unlike the playpen we used yesterday, there’s no easy way to access them if they don’t want to come out and they didn’t wanna.

It was craaaaazy. Three escaped, I thought chasing big chickens was humiliating but that’s nothing compared to chasing teeny tiny fluffers when you are also like oh shiiiiiiiiiii….

It turns out I CAN just barely fit myself through the opening at one end and then be almost laying down in the mess trying to capture the last two stragglers….

I am so very dirty now. So. Very. Dirty.

I have no idea how we’ll do this tomorrow. They’ve never had treats yet but maybe I can get them to think carrier means treats?

Just wow.

W O W

Picture attached so you can imagine me threaded through one end 😂😂😂

Oh wow! Friend, been there, done that, got the T-shirt! 🤣
I would have tried training them with treats and a signal to know when they may get treats, but with an outdoor coop. I don't think you can do that with this predicament. You know how Chickens go to roost at dusk/night? If you left them in there until night, they would hopefully be calm and roosting, therefore easier to catch.
Good luck!;)

Tomorrow, after you carry them out with the cat carrier, maybe you can leave the carrier sitting in the run all day with the carrier's door open.

Hopefully the carrier itself will not be scary after that, and if you get really lucky they might hide in it when you come to fetch them in the evening.

Here’s a few of them- Pinkie is my favorite, hopeful a BCM. Penguino already looks like a roo and Nimbus is a Silverudd with crossbeak. Last pic, my bigs checking out the littles.
