I am trying what appears to be loose mashed up feed!

I was using pellets but I made a mistake and bought a bag of the mashed dup stuff and it doesn't run through the feeder like the pellets but I have a feed a friend gave me but never used that one fills up with feed and the chicken is supposed to stand on a device which then opens it to the feed.
The question is How does one persuade the chicken to do that?

I would have a chicken with me and then put the chicken on top of where they have to stand so the lid opens. Then let the chicken eat and see that that's where the feed is and that's how they get it. Then do this process over and over until the chicken gets it.

All you have to do is teach one chicken to do it and then all the others will follow
