Help!
We are incubating eggs and the due date was yesterday. One of the babies chipped a small hole in the egg last night and we saw movement. It has now been 18 plus hours with no peeping of sign that the chick is trying to get out. Is there anything I should or can do?

Are you able to see any of the membrane? Does it look brown and dry? Have you tried making baby chick noises to see if it responds? There is a very good thread on the boards that talks about assisting a chick to hatch. However, sometimes chicks get started and take a break. Let me do some looking and try to find that thread.

Also, I know it's hard to just sit and wait. I wouldn't even think about assisting a hatch unless I knew for absolutely sure that the chick needed help. Sometimes a chick pips and it can take 24 hours for you to see any other action. I might wait a few more hours before I decided to do anything.
