We have one egg left in the incubator, and for 2 days we've heard it tapping on the egg and chirping a bit. I've debated whether or not I should make a small hole in the egg to help it out....there is a lot of yay's and nay's on the web about this, so I figured I'd ask everyone for their opinion.....what do ya think?

I have had to do it in the past to help a chick out, but it had already pipped. i guess if you get worried enough you could make a SMALL hole at about where you think its beak is...listen very carefully before you make the hole though.

just to give it a little jump start, but you should mist it numerous times throughout the day, i had to do this with my last duckling that hatched, shes fine n healthy.

it also might just be absorbing the last of the yolk before it comes out too.

tippycanoe, I had one do the same thing it took three days for he/she to come out in the world !! and he/she is running and eating like the others. sure does make ya worry dont it .

For sure it does. We lost 3 others in the last batch, the were full grown embryos in the egg, but I guess they just didnt make the final stretch. I was worried this one would do the same.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

What kind of duck eggs are they? I have both read and the woman that sold me my call duck eggs told me that most times call ducks need help with the beginning stages of hatching. Something about their beaks being too rounded.

We haven't hatched any yet, they're due the end of the week.
