Thanks for any advice. I have an approximately 1 year old bantam "Cochin" hen. I brought her from a neighbor a few months ago. She was missing all tail feathers but the current owner said she had been getting picked on by a rough rooster. The feathers only have very sparsely grown back. I've been dusting her thinking it might be a mite problem? The bald area is red and flaky. For the past week she has been staying in her nest box. She is very thin. Her eyes are goopy and the skin around her face is red and flaky. She eating and drinking (water with electrolytes & probiotics) if I take her out and set her near food and water. I've tried neosporin and now an opthalmic ointment on her eyes. I have called every vet within 30 miles and not one will look at a chicken. Any suggestions?

Well it’s a good thing she still eating and drinking at least. Has she been laying an egg lately? What about her droppings anything looking off? Indication of worms? You said you’ve been dusting her have you checked for mites? If you check for mites and find them it takes more than a dusting to get rid of them unfortunately they are a bear to get rid of I don’t know if any of these are your problem but just trying to narrow it down

Thanks for your replies....I dusted her almost daily daily for about 6 weeks.....Her poop seems too runny. She has stopped laying eggs. I have her isolated now, but she's normally with my 8 other hens...no symptoms of mites on them, although I do dust them occasionally. No respiratory problems.n I haven't called the lady I got her from because honestly I felt like she was not truthful in what was really causing her feather loss.

And that could be true. With mites you have to dust clean out the coop sprayed the corners well spray the whole thing very very very often along with the dusting but before you go through all that trouble I would check for mice. If she possibly egg bound? How long is it been since She has laid an egg? If you could post a picture of her and her droppings that would be super helpful

First off, thanks for your replies....I've never posted to a blog before so I'm figuring it out as I go. I checked her to see if she's egg bound. She is not. I'm posting some pics. I've been applying Nu Sock ointment to her tail and thought that was was getting on her face. On closer look, it really looks like a fungus or infection. Ugh. Originally I thought she was having issues with an impacted crop. She and one of my other hens got into some Timothy Hay. The other hen had a huge crop for days , and at the same time as this hen started acting sick. I researched and gave both some oil by eyedropper and massaged their crops. The other hen is fine after lots of poop. This hen still only watery poop. Thanks for your help. It's so fur

Poor baby! Both of you. I know how hard it is to care for our beloved flocks when we can't figure out what's going on. It's heartbreaking. Have you tried Tylan for the goopy eyes? It could be a symptom of a sinus/respiratory issue. The feathers are confusing. Could be unrelated. I've had great success with Tylan and goopy birds. Last winter i had two hens get sick and recovered quickly. Healthy since

I've been combing the posts and ran across some pics that looked similar to my hen and they were of chickens with Fowl Pox????

Oh. The hay and impacted crop. I’m sorry you have to deal with that and now this. I couldn’t see how the 2 would be related but seems odd timing so maybe it is. You don’t even have to see the wound, she just looks unwell in her face. Poor girl. @KikisGirls any clue?
