I can't get into my home computer

Hey guys, I need your help. I can't get into my computer at home, so use the email address I put in so I can get these at work. I've been told I have weak passwords on my computer so I changed my password, and can't remember it. I am going to try my password reset disk tonight, and hopefully I can get it changed. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know! Thanks!

No Deb, you're not the only one that forgets things! I just happened to bring home my workplaces laptop, this way I can keep up with things on here.

I still can't remember it guys! I need a hacker to come to my home just to get into my computer. LOL I will just have to keep hacking away!

google is your friend. there is a password reset disk out there in computer land that you can boot your pc with and reset the password.

But how do I create a disk if I can't remember my password?

does the work laptop have a floppy disk drive? sometimes they're external drives that are USB. Or use somebody elses computer to make the floppy disk.

take the disk home, put it in your pc then boot it up off the floppy drive. you will have to answer a few questions (which hard drive/windows installation etc) then type in the new password you want and reboot.

you don't need to log in to windows with this boot disk, it will boot the machine off of the floppy disk in to a linux kernel that can change the password within windows without starting windows.

The laptop don't have a floppy drive, as it is brand new, however can I do this if I have a guest account on my computer?
Please say yes, and explain step by step how to do this please.
Microsoft can't help, I tried that one already last week.

a guest account won't do much good unless it has administrative access to the machine. do you have more than one user set up on that machine? (kids, hubby, etc?)

if you do, log in as that user.

Option 1: Go in to control panel (start, settings, control panel) double click on user accounts, find your user and click on it. click on create password/change password.

Option 2: right click on my computer select manage. click the + sign next to local users and groups, click on users, on the right side of the screen click on your user then right click and click set password.

if the user account you are logged in as doesn't have administrative access to the machine you'll get an error when you try to change the password. if it allows you to change the password, once you change the password log out as that user then try logging in as you with the new password.

if all that doesn't work, call your IT guy/gal at work and ask if he/she will come out and fix it for you. Be prepared to pay at least $50 unless he/she likes you.
