Okay, y'all. My family went to Rural King yesterday to buy the kiddos some clothes. We did get the clothes, that's the important part, right?!
But we also got, you guessed it, chicks!! They had 4 little bantam chicks in a bin with NH chicks, and the poor bantams just couldn't hold their own. They're so tiny! They were being trampled all over.
So, home came the little ones. I think I've got guesses about breeds this time around, but I definitely would love some help from y'all! So here we go:
Chicks 1 and 2- these appear to be the same. They have feathered feet. Cochins maybe, but what color?
Chick 3- Smaller than 1 and 2, also has feathered feet, more so than 1 and 2. Similar to my d'Uccle. Possible this is a Mille Fleur d'Uccle?
Chick 4- black down, beak, feet, and skin. 5 toes. Silkie, right?
Also, I didn't notice when I bought these (rookie move, I should have checked), but the presumed silkie had a pasty butt when I got them home. I cleaned it well with warm water, dabbed it dry, and put the chick right back under the brooder plate. I had a family dinner, but when I got home late last night, there was a little more poop, but not like it had been. I cleaned the chick the same way. This morning, its butt is clean. The chick is eating and drinking and moving around.
Is there anything more I need to do for the baby, or is this normal and it should be okay as long as I keep a close eye on it and clean anything further I may see?
This group is somehow so much smaller than my first group was. The first ones must've been a little older than this group. But they are eating and drinking and going under the brooder plate. Everyone seems to have had a good night, and there was no loud distress peeping coming from their room.
