I didn't expect this

We rehomed our roosters last week. I don't worry about the care they will get. I just miss them. I miss the crowing and talking to them. So today I went outside and heard the neighbors rooster's crowing. It was nice. I didn't expect to feel this loss over them. It was for the best though.

We removed our air conditioners due to the weather change and now I can't hear the roosters anymore. I woke up the other morning in a slight panic trying to figure out what was wrong- something just seemed off- but it was just that I didn't wake up to their crowing.

I sympathise. Sometimes it's the little things we miss.

A few weeks ago I lost a pretty good friend. He didn't have a name as none of my chickens have names. Except for like 3 of 106. Or 107. Whatever. He always thought it was fun to wait on me. He would sit on the nesting box ledge while I fiddled with the door. When I opened it, he would fly up and land on my shoulder. He was gentle about it though. The other day, I found him dead in front of the steps to the nesting boxes. His neck was broken. He had flown off the roost pole and broke his neck. It was a sad day.
