BUT! (haha! Famous last words!)

I came home with 2 "show" silkies (the parents were from brown egg blue egg)... one black and one blue splash. I also HAD to get 2 of the 1 week old NNs they had there! They were just SO UGLY!.. and yet disturbingly cute at the same time...

So now I think I am only one chick away from having 50 chickens... argh... There will be some up for sale SOON to anyone within driving distance!!

Here are 3 of my silkies... the middle one is the white I had to begin with...

At the end of the night the black one snuck into the brooder and decided to snuggle the peeps... She was already mothering the NNs on the way home... tucking them under her wing... Too cute! She's snuggled up here with my tiny splash silkie (who I had already)

It was funny though... I didn't tell my BF that his mom and I got these chicks today... I just threw them in the coop and planned to "play dumb"

...

I have one older white silkie who has been running with the layers and 2 baby silkies that are in the quasi-brooder right now... The 2 new silkies were out in the run with the big girls foraging for bugs, etc when my BF and I went out to look at them (a favorite meditation technique!)

The black one walks by with the little splash and BF is looking at the splash and says "They are so funny looking... so fuzzy" Then he looks at the black one (I think "uh oh.. here it comes!"

) and he says "Wait, that one's fuzzy too!" I say "Yeah, that's a silkie too" he says "I thought so!".. and that was IT! He didn't notice that they were new!!! HAHAHAHAA!

I don't know what I'm gonna say when the NN's come out... I don't think he'll miss those... hahahaa!!!

Congrats on the 51 chickens. Welcome to the club. I came home with NN's from an auction on Friday. I know what you mean about the ugly, but cute thing.

Mom2emall is absolutely correct. You should get more and make it an even 60. And then, since you're very nearly there anyway, just get 15 more for 75. That's a really good number. But it's so close to 100 that you might as well get another 25!

I'm starting to see how this math works!
