Our roo came into his own about 3 weeks ago, and started asserting himself. His ladies love him! Well at least we think they do, since for the last two days EVERY single one of our hens has been walking around in the egg squat position! lol It's so funny because they seem to be "bigger" lol.

How old is your rooster? Does he crow yet? Happy for him that the ladies have taken to him!

Our roo turned 5 months old on Tuesday! He has started trying to crow too! It's so hilarious because he walks around doing the baaaak bak bak, and he sounds sick, lol! He's already bigger than our pullets that are 7, 8, & 9 months.

I know right? lol I'm happy they took to him like that too! We got him at 8 weeks and the girls have ALWAYS been good to him.

Reading your posts make me want a rooster. I'd love to have a nice gentle rooster for our six girls who "squat" with our every move! Too noisy though. The girls will have to settle for a good backscratch from us!

You can make almost any rooster into a nice calm rooster around people. I have two very good roosters. When roosters are young and just starting to feel their hormones they will try to dominate you as well as the "other" members of their flock. (I know this sounds mean but it works.) Every time they would get near me with "that" look in their eye I would just kick the crap out of them. It only took two or three times and three years later they still treat me with respect. You may need to reinforce your dominate position from time to time and when you are in the chicken yard always walk right straight at your rooster and make him move out of your way, never move for him or go around him. You are the king.
