I was showing my daddy my chickens and he says, "Felicia, how in the world can you love a chicken so much?" All I could reply was, "I don't know. I just do. Its a chicken. I love them. I mean, how can you not love that face (showing him my showgirl roos face)" He chuckled and said, "Ah, I don't know I just don't get it..." Then he smiled and walked into the house. Don't get me wrong, my dad is awesome with helping me build stuff for my animals and helping me by taking care of them when I go places. But right now, I have 41 animals and in the next month or two the total will be up to 61. And I am only 16! I love it all so much. I couldn't imagine myself with out animals around.

What about you? Do you have a parent/bf/gf/dh/dw that just doesn't get it?

Oh, and here is a picture of the roo I showed him

What matter is not that he understands why you love your chickens but that he clearly loves you enough to care about the things you love.......

Give him a big hug and don't worry about it.

You are right. I know he loves me so much. He thinks its goofy to love a chicken so much. But its okay

He'll catch on eventually.

Yeah, he always "complains" when I want more animals. With my sheep, he did not want me to get her at all. But once I got her, I caught him baby talking to her, hehe. Don't think I will be seeing him doing that to my chickens anytime soon, but you never know!

Thanks

I got him for a fellow BYCer! I love him to pieces. He is so friendly and he is great with the other baby chickens. When I walk out there at night all the baby chicks head pop out from under his wings and fluff. Its really cute.

My hubby likes them but dosen't want to help with them. He's fine as long as I'm taking care of them and don't ask him to help feed or build something. My Mom and and one sister just shake their heads also, saying they don't get it either. Guess you either love them or hate them. I think their peaceful, I can be stressed and just go set and watch them and it relaxes me.

My mom is the same way or worse. Im 13 and she always just gives them this disgusted look and says they have lice or fleas or whatever piojos is in english (Spanish). She likes my rats more which I frankly do not get since both species are adorable LOL. Oh well she pays the bills so she must like them at least a bit right?

Oh and just to add, the 1rst time I saw a showgirl I thought they looked kind of weird to LOL. They grow on you though

Im 16 too, with 15 ducks, and my mom just cant seem to get why I need so many " mess makers". but she lets me keep them reguardless.

. They always give me a good laugh too when I am feeling down. I love to go watch them or just hold them. I carry my showgirl hen around with me all the time. She just sits in my arms while I do chores.

My mom doesn't say much - unless I tell her were out of feed, then she throws a fit (but now I have my license so I don't have to deal with that anymore). But my sister is very vocal about her hate towards them

She thinks they are little devils. But the other day I caught her showing them to her friends and she actually picked on up, so I think its all an act. I know that if someone was going to hurt them she would defend them for me.

My mom and sis don't really get my love of the plump feathered ones! They understand that I love them, but don't really get it either. Make it a cat or a dog and then they get it.

I think your roo is adorable!

How could you not love that face!
