Darn it. Hugs to you. Breaks my heart just to read your post.
I don't know, so I'm putting it out there to others with far more knowledge than I have, but would a septic (??) stick work on a chicken? You know, like what a guy uses when he cuts himself shaving. I think it's the same stuff they put on dogs nails when they get cut too short. I'm just wondering aloud, because I haven't had to deal with this problem yet.
Im so sorry about you hen, sounds like you did what you could but sometimes thats not enough.
You may want to look into the product that clots blood, i keep it stocked for this type of thing because i once had a simular problem.
Sorry for your loss remeber she is in heaven free ranging forever now
I highly doubt that she bled to death from a small wound on her comb. When I dub my males, their entire comb is cut off and they lose a loooot of blood, but they walk away as if nothing happened, never showing signs of fatigue. She might have bled to death internally if she was attacked. Whatever the case is, I'm so sorry for you loss. *hugs*
PS: flour stops blood very effectively. So does cayenne peper, which, ironically, also relieves pain. Ice will slow blood flow as well.
