I fogot the grit

I am hesitant to write because I may get some wrath .... however I really love my birds and I need your help. We got our chickens in the summer and I bought everything I needed. They were foraging and did not eat much if any grit. Then winter hit and they were coop bound but the grit had gotten buried under hay and I forgot. Today I was working with one of them and I noticed a bulge in her throat .... several others have the same bulge. And then i remembered the grit!!!! Now what? How do I get this fixed? I put grit out now but do I need to do more?
