A bale of wheat straw!

I put it out and the girls just went for it and had a grand old time scratching through it, jumping on it, and finding whatever in it. They ALL loved it. I went and grabbed a beer and they demolished it in minutes. So much for me having to spread it around.

Gone in minutes...

I even gave a wedge of it to the little ameraucana and silkie babies...and they also loved it.

That looks like regular straw - rather than pine straw. I love the idea, though. I think I'll give my chickens the same treat this week. Cute photos!

Just make sure they don't eat any of it. It can cause crop impaction if they do. They have some pictures of crop impaction surgery caused from eating straw on this website.
