I found the most delightfully rotten turkey egg last night.

Buried in the litter. All crusted over and brown. Knowing it had to be removed, and facing danger, I approached it slowly and cautiously, like the bomb disposal squad would ...

Gingerly holding it, I removed it from the pen and carefully walked it over to one of my apple trees, where I launched it on its fateful journey against the trunk.

With a mighty "pop" it exploded upon impact. Bomb diffused, pen saved, and best of all, Bambi vanquished for another few days.

Seriously, I've found out that rotten eggs are keeping the deer from eating my fruit trees. I hung some rotten quail eggs in a little mesh bag in one, and bambi has left that tree alone, while he's been eating the other ones.

This particular egg really was ready to go off = it popped like a small firecracker.

Hummmmm, just found a duck nest with many infertile eggs. Might just have to challenge the kids with them in the orchard. Nice not to just have to throw them away.

I stepped on a rotten duck egg that was burried in 6' of shavings

A 22-250 works pretty well also!

Believe me, if that were an option, it would have happened a long, long time ago. Our deer are so unafraid of people here that they wander around in the daytime and you can generally approach within about 50 feet before they even move. Some of them just stand there and graze as I walk up to within about 20 feet trying to shoo them away. I even had one kind of chase me back to the house once, I think it must have had a fawn nearby -- that kind of freaked me out.

Its a pretty densely populated suburban area, and hunting of any kind has been completely banned here since the early 1970s. The stupid deer know they're safe from everything except cars.

Last weekend we emptied the pond in the pen, and found 10! rotten, disgusting duck eggs...eww!

I found an old nest with my string trimmer once

I didn't have to look for the source of the stink, I knew what it was right away!

Where the heck are you, communist NJ?

I'm in Texas and we have a long deer season, October-Jan and still have too many! We can protect our agriculture crops from deer year round but can not eat them out of season. I had lots of trouble in my garden until I got Great Pyreneese dogs to protect my birds. Guess what, they also keep all the deer and wild hogs away from the house! What a bonus!
