As some of my BYC buddies on Facebook know, I got a job!!! I decided to take the summer off and try to find work closer to fall but wasnt having much luck. I turned in applications at Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Petco, Petsmart, Ace Hardware, Papa Murphy's and a local feed store and a pet store. I called daily with no luck, they always said they werent hiring.
Well Friday I got a call from the pet store asking if I could come in Saturday for an interview at around 11, I said I couldnt make it at that time because I was helping a friend move. So he said 'what about 2:30' so I said I could. I got there at 2 and waited around until 2:30, hung out in the pet room. As I was waiting there was a person looking at 'jungle fowl' chicks and they asked the employee about them and they had no clue what they were, simply said 'they are chickens'. I walked over and told them about them and that those chicks are probably a cross because they came from a hatchery. Right then the manager walked up behind me and said 'wow you're helping customers and you dont even work here yet!' so I got brownie points that way.
Then it was time for the interview and for some reason I wasnt nervous like I always am, I felt very comfortable. The guy was impressed with my application and resume and all of my animal knowledge. He said he was also impressed that I could make it on such short notice, the others couldnt do it for a week. He said he would only call if I got the job and still had others to interview. So I went to a BBQ with a friend and she checked her phone and noticed that someone from my house tried to call so I called home and they said the pet store called and they want me to call them back ASAP. So I called and the lady said I start Thursday morning!
I am so happy! It will be hard though because they have chicks right now and they are like a drug to me but I live in town and already have ducks so it will be hard to resist. Plus I get employee discount and can charge it which is even worse. The pet store I work for is the place I would go in the fall and winter when I was having chick withdrawls, most of the time it was cockerels but I got lucky and got pullets. So like a friend said, I will just have to treat them like pets away from home. And I am already thinking about chickens, they have 2 welsummer pullets that tempt me.
I will have to take the city bus for a while but as soon as I get paid I am buying a truck so I can just drive and take 10 minutes to get to work instead of 45. Then once I get a truck I will get a new laptop!
So I just thought I would update all my BYC friends.
