I got a Roo..now what?

So one of my 6 pullets is a Roo. My husband and I would like to keep him because it’s a breed I’ve always wanted. He’s a black and white polish. My questions are..now what? How big will he get? How are Polish roos temperaments? Are the average crowers? He’s 3 months old right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

[Polish Hen House]

Polish chickens tend to be 4-5 pounds. They tend to have a nice personality and crow like any other rooster. I have Polish hens, but unfortunately no roosters due to my cities laws. If you want him to be a look out for the flock, you might have to trim his crest feathers at times. He shouldn't be too aggressive, but you never know with roosters. I hope this helped

You will love your Polish roo! I received one as a gift from the hatchery (black/white crested) and he has grown up to stay true to his nature! He is sweet, kind and protective of his hens, and very mindful of the humans and the fact that we outrank him! He does not overdo the crowing but the amount he crows in a day actually depends on how often the neighbor's roosters crow. He will answer them! Poli is 5 months old now and if anything he has gotten much taller in the past month!

I am so smitten with the breed that we are now raising 8 more Polish! Four Blue white crested and 4 golden laced!

Thank you for your input! Very much appreciated. I plan on trimming his feathers soon as they are pretty long and in his face already.

I do not have one, though I REALLY WANT ONE!! the ones I have met are sweet mild and good to their ladies. every roo is different, but most are good roosters!

He is absolutely gorgeous, hrdkndy! I am lucky with Poli! So far I have not had to trim his head feathers but he is still young!

I would start training this cockerel right now. I don't make pets of my cockerels (rooster under 1 year of age). I make them keep their distance and respect my space. If one is between me and were I want to be, I will walk in a straight line to get there and he will move out of my way. I will move him away from feed and water sometimes, just because I can. I will walk toward them until they move away, just to remind them that I am the boss. If one comes toward me, I will make him back up. Sometimes I will just walk right through them to make them a little wary of me. I act with confidence around them all, and don't let any of them back me down, chase me or approach me. I have been raising cockerels like this for some time, and have yet to have a human aggressive rooster. Let him do his job, protecting the flock, and don't make a pet out of him.
