After finally building my ducks their own run and sectioned off part of the coop. I went in and found a nice huge duck egg laying in the corner of the coop.

On a side note, I have a silly question. My ducks don't like going in the coop at night. Which with their new enclosure I'm not too concerned for their safety. Its a 6 foot heavy duty chain link fence. I am on a shale bed so there is no tunneling under the fence only way in is up and over, so that pretty much leaves raccoons. So far (knock on wood) I haven't seen a single raccoon in this area, I know they are out there but so far nothing here.

Ok time for the silly question, its Northern Michigan in November, it gets very cold out at night. I noticed in the outside waters there is a small layer of ice in the early morning. My ducks spend all night on their pond. Do I have to worry about the water freezing with them in it?

I would worry about that. I had a chocolate Muscovy hen that i had to bring in EVERY morning for about an hour, sometimes more. Her feathers all over her were caked with ice.

after a while, she got used to her regular "laundry basket defrost" sessions everyday, but it was a real pain...just happy it was only 1 duck!!

I would not take the chance by leaving them outside at night. As the cold weather sets in, people are not out leaving food in trash cans and the farmers are removing all their crops, coons will be looking for something else to eat. It only takes one night to wipe out all your ducks.

Yea for me I having been getting 1 duck egg a day. Was hoping for more I have 2 pekin, 2 mallards, 1 pekin drake. I still havent tried eating a duck egg yet. I dont know why I just have been using my chicken eggs for everything.
