I'm not on FB, or Instagram or Tiktok, so I only saw the photos, not the video ads. And I definitely didn't see the videos warning against those so-called mineral mugs. Now, in my defense, I knew they couldn't be made of real minerals. But they were so pretty, and I thought that they would at least look similar to the photos.
Here is what I ordered.
My first reality check after ordering was that I got tracking info from China. Then I see the scam-alert videos showing what people actually got compared to what they thought they ordered. None of them showed receiving the same one that I ordered, though, so I retained a tiny smidgeon of hope.
After a three-week wait, it came. I anxiously opened it, and yup, it was ugly.
Here is what came.
The paint job was ugly, I should say. The cup itself was rather nice. In other words, the mold they used was a nice one, with lots of good textures, and if you looked past the paint job, it showed some potential. That piqued my brain, and off it went.
The first thing I did was rummage through all my paint, and I found some sample bottles of this color-changing paint from Spaz Stix, that I'd bought years ago to experiment with. It's a two-step process by which you first paint on the black backer base, then add the color-changing paint. It's made for paint sprayers, but I just used a brush.
The reddish areas are from the Gold/Orange/Purple/Red color 05600, and the greenish areas are from the Green/Purple/Teal color 05700.
Here it is after I repainted and sealed it. It's a dark-colored mug now and was very hard to photograph. It looks redder in reality. I'm totally in love with it now! I couldn't be happier.
FYI, it holds 6 oz. The stainless cup is removable.
