I got seramas!!

Yes my hens literally lay for a month maybe if I'm lucky. Sit on eggs hatch and then raise. Then do it all over again. I have one hen yet to not go broody which has really surprised me as most of them started brooding as soon after there first egg.

My boyfriend and I attended a table top Serama show today near our home. Boy, I am glad we did! We spent a total of $50 on five seramas. Within hours of getting them home, one had already laid an egg and the rooster is sitting on it!

First, we purchased a “mystery” box. It was only $10 and came with a pair of chicks. It was promised that there would only be one cockerel and that atleast one would be show quality. I think we got a good pair!

Then, we picked up a breeding pair for $20. The seller had purchased a new show pullet and needed room in her box home, so she cut us a deal. She said the roo is a great dad and has been scoring in the 70’s at shows. He is around 14 months. The hen is said to be around a year and is proved to throw mottled chicks. I don’t know who laid the egg, but the rooster is being a great dad and sitting on it for the hen as she watches from the roost. I am so pumped to have this rooster. So far, he has been SO easy to handle and he’s been dancing for the hens right away.

Lastly, we searched long and hard for a breeder that was willing to sell a lone pullet or hen. It was difficult because almost everyone refused to separate a pair. There were tons of very pretty pairs, but my main reason for wanting another one was to create a trio. I was worried a pair would cause overbreeding for the poor little female. Luckily, we finally found a breeder willing to part with a hen that had laid her first egg this morning. She is certainly feisty and made it a little difficult for us to get her form her box, but I have faith she’ll settle in.

Anyways, thanks for letting me share! I’m just so excited to have these guys. This is also my first one laying. My first round of chicks in my large coop is supposed to start any day now. It’ll be an exciting summer!
They are beautiful that boy is gorgeous. Did you get them from Brian?

Here’s some photos, they are about 3 weeks old, so they are still growing in some feathers. Their coloring is exchequer.
