I have 10 chicks, 3 Rhode Island Reds, 3 Plymouth Barred Rocks, 2 Speckled Sussex, and 2 Golden Comets. Their hatch date was Oct 1, 2018. They've been roaming around their 1200ish sqft yard for 2 months now but for the past 2 weeks they've been flying up to the top bar of the gate and jumping down to the other side. I don't know if their bored or if the "grass is greener on the other side" but it seems to be the same 3 doing it. I was hoping they would be good little chickies and not do this but no matter how many time I put them back over the fence theyre back out an hour later. My dogs haven't attacked them yet but they do sniff em and will chase em if they run. The dogs do listen when I tell them to stop, which is good and surprising. Now the hard part is to convince my wife to help me and hold them.

Will any nice sharp pair of scissors do the trip or should I look for something in particular?

It is pretty easy to do. Just look at each feather shaft to make sure it is clear (a growing feather will have a shaft full of blood, don't cut that).

I would cut the first 4 on each wing.
