I posted yesterday on the predators and pests thread that my first chicks that I raised from 3 day old fluff butts were killed by dogs!!

This was a horrific revelation after seeing them thrive...they were very close to full size and I LOVED watching them in the run after work.

Well as you can guess, my night was consumed by perusing the hatchery websites for more babies though most were too low on stock to have them here soon. I went to the local feed and seed store and they had BABIES!!

I got 12 total, 3 each of Easter Eggers, BSL, BR and RIR!! The only breeds that I had before that I no longer have are the Speckled Sussex and Australorp. I will get more of them as they were very good looking and behaving chicks.

I now have the time and resources to improve my security in the coop and run while my little ones enjoy the good life in thye brooder!! I could not go a single day w/o my girls so I had to get more! The addiction runs deep

I saw the other thread. Condolences. And don't wait on fixing that run. Chicks become big fast. I'm under a lot of pressure to get a tractor finished. NOW!!!

If you are going to get more, you might consider a few Delaware along with the BA's and SS. The white would look good with your mostly dark chickens, epecially from a distance, mine have a tremendous peronality, and they lay well. Not that I'm an enabler, but if you are getting more anyway..... I think you would be pleased with them.

Thanks for the suggestion Ridgerunner! I absolutely will try the Delaware breed...I have actually looked at them a lot but for whatever reason they have fallen off the order. I was just thinking the same thing that you pointed out, my breeds are dark and have no lighter colors among them. This must change!

Actually I have thought of BO's, GSL's and a few others (Delawares as well), which all are popular at the moment. My decision was mostly for egg production over color, but now I am open to most any variety except cornish and show birds. Meaties may be doable but a lot farther down the road!
