I agree that factory farming is harmfull, but I dont really think that family farms are gone. I am surrounded on all sides by family farms, and to be honest, I have never seen the "corporate farming" I hear about, except in the pork and chicken sectors.

My FIL has 50 head of cows and about 400 acres, and we all work when it is needed. Thats a family farm. Our neighbors have fields all the way around us, and so do other people. Most of them have no more then one employee, to help irrigate. Many have no employees.

I know that the meat sectors, the poultry and pork industries, have changed, and I think it is gross to eat that kind of meat. But most farms are still owned by families.

I second LunaChick and agree with Amosunknown. We changed as a society for many reasons and we lost so much more than our common sense but also our pride, family values and an overall understanding of the foodchain and where we fit into the pic. Sad. Still, grassroot movements like ourselves at least daily say we aren't going to go along with the majority anymore. Majority just really is ignorant (or I least hope that's the case).

Warmfuzzies: You are correct. The following link from BLS has some helpful statistics. Most farms are still family owned. But the demographic trend is towards fewer, larger farms. So, there is some concern that as fewer become larger, more will become what we saw in the video.
