I have to put a chicken out of her misery. Poor old Hybrid called Brownie. She's lost the use of her legs.
It's been a few days now and despite my ministrations she's getting worse. Electrolytes, a cage to herself under a tree, hardboiled eggs mashed up, yogurt, etc.
That's the problem with these poor production-type girls. They burn out, don't they? This batch laid all winter, never molted, never went broody. Just not natural.
Anyway, I'm sad. But I know it's for the best.

My son offered to do it for me but she was my responsibility. She wasn't the first, but it's been a while. For her sake (and mine) I'm glad I haven't lost my touch.
