I have 10 chickens hatched out March 20,

and 2 of those are roosters and the rest pullets. The roo's are crowing, started a week ago. Shouldn't the pullets be laying? Which comes first, the crow or the laying?

With our silkies, they can start crowing at around 4 months, but the pullets won't lay until they are around 8 months or more.

The crow always comes first in my flocks. By 12 weeks the boys are crowing.

Mine are EE's so mostly mutts. So I guess they started crowing at 14 weeks.

I looked it up and the AI version isn't much help narrowing the egg-laying down!

My easter eggers have started laying right around 5 months old. Even the production breeds rarely lay before 4 months.

Our cockerels that were hatched the second week in May started crowing two weeks ago. They have improved in the last two weeks.
