In august I tried hatching silkie eggs. At first they all died in the egg, pipped then died, or hatched but had spraddle leg and died. I eventually managed to hatch 2, but before that the hen went broody so I let her hatch 8 eggs, six hatched and one died at a month old. Even though it is cold out, I have been hatching some more. I have 3 hatched, 1 pipped, and about 16 in the incubator!!!!! The first two hatched out fine. But the third had pipped, but he did not make progress for about 30 hours! So even though I shouldn't, I helped him out. I had done that before and they all died. I would pick of some and then he would pick some. I knew he would die though. I eventually got him out. He had lost more blood then usual. He was very weak. But miraculously, 3 hours later he was on his feet trying to escape! I kept him in there over night and I put him in the tack room with the others and he is very loud and active. I can't wait till more hatch, they are so cute!
