I have a bad virus.. can I change the 5 week old chick's bedding?

Please let me know if it is safe for me to change my 5 week old chicks bedding when I have a throwing up virus

Most human diseases don't infect chickens, and vice versa except for certain ones such as salmonella and campylobactor, so wash your hands very well or wear gloves. I like to use a dustpan and a brush from the dollar store to do that--you can keep them just for that job.

If your immune system is bad you may want to be careful if it's really bad. If you've let things go to the point where there might be mold and such in the bedding you don't want to be breathing that in.


Whatever ails you isn't likely to be something that can affect chickens though, if that's what worries you.

I did change it but I never let it get bad...it had only been 3 days since the last changing... Thanks everyone... it literally took every once of my energy to do it and the chickies are much happier.... they can trash their home almost as quickly as my family can trash a hotel room.
