Babies just turned two weeks old, all 6 looked like pullets a few days ago (mostly), but I had my eyes on one.
The comb was bigger, but no pink/red to it, no waddles, and vent check was iffy as baby was squiggly.
Wellllll, today I checked again.
Waddles are coming in and colored, and the vent was more obviously male.

Eeep! Was hoping for all pullets as the place I’m currently at isn’t rooster friendly. Now I’m REALLY hoping I get the house with four acres AND that I can manage to raise him to continue to be as sweet as he is. He isn’t the first to come when called, but he hops into my hand like the girls, and he’ll chill on my lap.

Any first hand tips on raising a sweet roo?
I generally have a way with animals, but roos are new territory and I’d love to keep him! He’s gorgeous!

Post some pics of them. We'd love to see them.
Btw, what was it about the vent that made him look male? Does he have something hanging from there?

And welcome to the flock!
:welcome

I work third shift, so I’m actually about to sleep. But I’ll get some pics of them later today!

Lol he definitely has the “bubble” when I did the vent check. He’s also bigger than the others with the bigger comb, hence my suspicious eyeing. xD

Good morning and welcome to the BYC flock!!! Best thing to hopefully raising a behaved rooster is to just keep handling him. All 3 of my roosters were handled from first purchased (chicks) and as they got older. Soon as hormones kick in you just have to hope all that good attention keeps his head on the right track.

As requested, some pictures of my wee ones. Figured I'd take some as I went to switch out their water. Again. Silly babes and flitting bedding into their waterer. lol

A few of the cockerel, looking MUCH more roo than a few days ago. :P
The waddles and colors are more obvious in person, but I'm sure you guys know how "easy" it is to get pictures of two week old chicks. xD
