Small genetics question in regard to colors.

I purchased some BBS Orpington eggs and 3 hatched out. They were supposed to be BBS [I know that means blue, black and splash]

One of my babies is blue, the other black but the third baby is cream. No black or blue on her at all.

From my limited understanding, the white and buff and red babies come out with yellow/orangey fluff.

This baby is cream colored. Definitely white based though.

I guess my question is, how does this happen? I thought with BBS, there were only those 3 color combinations?

Can someone please enlighten me?

Wait for the feathers. Can be anything-from bad breeder to.... Mani Orpingtons are golden based behind being black or blue, many have Dark Brown gene too. This can make splash baby to look cream.

cream colored chicks are wheaten based(eWh) yellow colored chicks are dominant white, as of yet no splash chicks can look yellow at hatch, seems like both of the parents are heterozygous for wheaten

Here's a picture of her. I'm kind of excited to see what color she ends up being! Hopefully it's something awesome!

Your chick looks like a splash to me. I'm not as familar with BBS orps, but a few years ago I got a splash orpington chick that looked a lot like yours. He grew up to be "normal" splash colored which is white with black/greyish specks. Also, here is a pic of some splash chicks from my blue Barnevelder project. They look very similar to your splash, but of course have even more "goldish" marking because they are based on brown not black like yours.
