I want to make up a gravity fed waterer for my quails. I will be using a 5 gallon bucket with pvc piping for this. I have everything pretty much set in my head but I have questions about the actual bowl for the water. I DO NOT like the idea of water nipples. I have not had much luck with them in the past so these seem to be the only things left to me. What are your opinions on either of these. I will also be using the same system for my pheasants. So what do you think about them for pheasants as well?

I am thinking about the second one on this page for the quails.

I kinda like this one but, my question is, is this to deep for the quails? If I hang it a few inches above ground would the deepness of this one make it hard for them to drink out of?

This one looks similar to the one above maybe a little deeper?

As for me, I've looked at these waterers mighty hard at my farm supply here, but FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON, I just don't trust them. Why? Heck, I don't know. I guess it's my community water system. Should that deter your decision? NO. I guess another thing that doesn't make them appealing is that it's one of those gadgets that's gonna (if it will) supply water all the time, and will collect "goo" (algae, stuff, more stuff, etc....) I guess I was moreso leaning towards "drink cups" or ..........in your case of the one you don't like........the nipples..........

I'll set back a spell and

These are perfect!!! Just what I was looking for. Believe it or not I have been searching the web to find something like this and NOTHING came up. I read your post then tried a search for "drink cups" and up they poped!!

Thank you!!! I had a bunch of pros and cons about the others but these are the ones that I will be going for.

These are the ones you were talking about right?

I've got some I'm sittin' on that I was gonna try last year, but "chickened" out. But, I'm gonna put'em to the test here shortly in one of my pens so I can get the warm-fuzzies about them. We were talking about them on here the other nite, and as usual, I voiced my skepticism, and JJMR kinda gave me a little optimism about keepin the crud out of'em.......don't remember what thread it was.

At least with these drink cups, I can build a manifold of'em and use the ol' "5-gallon bucket up above for head-pressure" system, and feel comfortable while I'm at work ........ knowin' they got water.

I use the drinking cup on one of my cages . It was kinda an experiment to see if they use it. And they do. At first I was concerned that it wasnt full of water all the time but then realised they dont sit there and hold the arm down to fill it up like I do They just peck it to get a drink. I have mine settup with a 5 gal bucket with a lid. I think you could use the float in it to always supply fresh water they sell the floats for like 15$ , or you could just add it yourself. Im also looking to try and add a small fountain pump to the system so the water is always moving recirculating. That might help with the freezing in the winter and help keep it cleaner. I have it all planned out in my head just have to go do it

GQF SELLS THEM AS SEPERATES OR KITS... THEY WORK WELL. THEY DO REQUIRE TUBING TO BE CLEANED PERIODICALLY HERE IN THIS TROPICAL CLIMATE. ITS EASY, JUST UNPLUG IT FROM THE DRINK CUP AND SHOOT SOME PRESSURIZED WATER THRU FROM THE HOSE.... BLOWS ALL THE ALGEA OUT AND YOU'RE GOOD TO GO FOR ANOTHER COUPLE OF WEEKS. BUCKET RESERVIORS WILL NEED SIMILAR CARE.
