I have 3 hens that went broody on me. The first hen went broody last Saturday she is sitting on some non fertile eggs. Can I still put some fertile eggs under her today? I have a second hen that went broody Monday. I put fertile eggs under her yesterday I was only able to get 5 from my parents. My 3rd hen is a red sex link she started going broody on Tuesday. Should I put the fertile eggs I get this evening under her or the first hen? I'm trying to find eggs for them all but it is kind of hard. I don't have a rooster as of right now.
I was just curious how long I can keep putting fertile eggs under these hens and they will still hatch?

The reason I gave the fertile eggs to the second hen is this is her first time going broody. The first hen has already gone broody 2 times before this 3rd time. The first time she abandoned her eggs after 15 days sitting on them. The second time I just took her eggs and she gave up being broody. I'm a little afraid to give her any fertile eggs now. Since she didn't do very well the first time. But maybe I should give her a chance to hatch out some chicks? Would it be to late to give her some fertile eggs? She has been sitting for about a week.

Since you have other hens going broody at the same time , I would give her another chance, jus keep a eye on her if she, abandons the eggs again, i would put the eggs under a more trusting hen,and not trust her anymore for a while.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will give her another chance.

I really hope we can get some chicks this time.

The reason I didn't get any fertile eggs before yesterday is we had a lot going on. We was without power for 9 days after the big storm we got on June 29th. So getting fertile eggs was the last thing on my mind when the first hen went broody. But after the other 2 hens also went broody. I figured I better try and get my ladies some fertile eggs.

We did have a rooster 2 months ago. But we had to get rid of him because he was flogging my 5 year old son all the time. I wish these girls would had went broody back then. But I guess some times things don't work out the way we want them to.
