I have a 30 week old rooster and yesterday I noticed that he was trying to sleep all the time. He is eating and drinking well. No runny eyes or anything. His poop seems to be okay. I have quaranteened him. What can I do to help him? What could this be? Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks
Dwayne

describe in detail the droppings..color and consistency.
does he feel thin? is the keel prominent? (breastbone)
is the comb pale or droopy?

what all do you feed?
do they have access to feed and fresh water all the time?

what sort of bedding and coop do you have?
is he cooped, penned or free range?
how many chickens do you have?

have they been wormed? if so, when? and what was used?
have they been checked and treated for mites or lice?

listen for wheezing.

He is not thin
Breastbone seems fine
Comb is fine
I feed Southern States Layer 16% pellet
Fresh Water each day and feed as the feeders need filled uo
Pine chip for bedding
He is in a wire pen with 3 hens (I have other chicks in other pens)
I worm them with DE
I check and did not see any mites or lice.

I hope this helps!

is there any white in the droppings?

where are you located? what's the weather?
any marks on wattles or combs? color of comb? pale?
describe the dots..are they crusty? changing color? (could be Pox)

check his mouth and throat with a small flashlight for any sores, lesions, or coating..
check the crop..best to check in the morning before eats.
does he have a sour smell?

does he walk normally?
check the legs and feet..legs for raised scales or crust.
feet, including bottoms and between toes for sores, scabs, heat or swelling.

get some poultry vitamins or Poly-vi-sol liquid baby vitamins, Enfamil brand, no iron.
give 3 drops once a day on beak for 3 days, then 2 drops for 3 days, then 1 drop for days.
another product you might consider is Avia Charge from McMurray Hatchery.

make up this mixture: it is for 1 day..divide into 3 feeds for the 1 day..give along with regular feed available.

1 cooked egg yolk
2 tablespoons plain yogurt
3-4 tablespoons regular or quick (not instant) oatmeal..or baby oatmeal.
drizzle of honey or a little unsweetened applesauce or baby applesauce

as to worming...DE might help with worms, but will not treat any heavy infestation in good time..
I might consider getting some Wazine 17 and treating the him and the flock before cold weather sets in.
I might consider getting some Sulmet, or sulfamethoxidine..

do the checks as suggested, post back with findings...
see how he does with the mixture and vitamins for a few days.
post back for update or any changes in symptoms.

He seems to be doing better today. I bought some Sulmet, Durvet Vitamins and Electrolytes. I had some Poultry Nutri-Drence and I gave him so directly in the mouth last night and this morning.

His poop is green and has some white in it.

His comb look okay still red not pale. I am going to mix up some of the oatmeal mixture and give it to him today.

I will keep you posted. For the dot on the eye just one on each eye.

Thanks for your help!

Dwayne

I am located in Northwest Georgia and it has been dropping into the mid 30 at night and 50-60 during the day for the last few days.

He seems to be walking okay just a little slow.

Feet and legs look okay.
