Hi...
Yesterday I was working in the yard. My 4 chicken ladies were with me pecking around. Anyway I stopped to sit on our front stairs to take a break. In front of my stairs we have a small concrete pad, and a huge round ceramic flower pot (it is kinda like a chicken waterer with the base to hold water). Well my EE hen Mable was taking a drink of water. I was just sitting there watching her (other chickens pecking around) thinking how it was so cute when BF taught her how to drink when she was a baby chick. Then she got this wierd look in her face like she was really concentrating, her body got real still, and she made herself look like she had no neck? (Other chickens still pecking around.) I thought OMG she's choking or something! I went to touch her back and asked her if she was okay and.....
PLOP.....An EGG fell out!
Me and the other chickens were like what are you doing (they are all laying already) that's supposed to go in the nest boxes! It was her first olive green egg! (She has been singing her egg song and "squating" for 2 weeks or so now)
It did get a crack in the top where it hit the concrete, but that's okay easier for blowing out.
But the story continues....I was so excited I got to see her lay her first egg. I can't believe she hasn't been paying attention and watching the other girls.
So I did some more work around the yard and it started to rain pretty good and my girls don't like the rain. I went to the coop and called them in and saw something in the dirt inside there run that looked a little out of place. It was a very light looking rock for what would be in the coop. I couldn't believe it, it was another olive green egg. That stinker she had layed one the day before and just put it right in the dirt in the run....
So really this is the first egg and the one that she just "dropped" in front of me was the second one....
