It's reading 104 degrees in the shade here. *sigh*

My big BO girl is having a horrible time. Luckily, she has arthritis and doesn't move around very much. So, I have her in the shade with cool water right near her. She is also sitting in her "ice nest" that I made for her. But in this heat, the ice is melting really fast. I went out to add more ice cubes to the water dish, and had an idea. I took some ice cubes, and tucked them into her feathers! Being a BO, she is very fluffy. When you push her feathers aside, you can literally feel the body heat trapped in there. I didn't place the ice right on her skin, because that might bother her. So, I just smoothed back feathers and tucked an ice cube in here and there! Let me tell you, she stopped panting right away! Plus, she started doing her "content" cluck. I know this wouldn't work with a very active bird, but it's working well for my little old lady!

how sweet.
