Today I answered an ad on craigslist and the lady was so nice--we went over to her place and SHE HAS EVERYTHING! All kinds of birdies and ponies and emus and peacocks--strange little ducks and the most gorgeous Russian ruffley feathered swans EVER!

I came home with a white silkie banty, a black sex link and a splash laced something or other.

I have 9 others and they were ALLLLLLL bent out of shape abou the new ladies, so I put them in a pen inside the yard for the older girls. Babies are safe, but they can get used to each other. My big girls were soooo snooty to the newbies. meanies.

Anything else I can do to speed up the friendship?

Where's the pics?!?!

As for helping your current flock get adjusted to the new ladies, it will just be a matter of them working out the pecking order unfortunately. I've never found anyway other than adding the newbies to the flock at night then letting them wake up together.

I do hope that you have quarantined your new chickens just incase.

Yep, they are quarantined in their own little hutch/cage thing, just in case.

I will take pix tomorrow--I am too tired getting everyone settled. That little silkie got out of our eyesite today and it was all hands on deck panic till we found her (just hanging around the corner of the building....) wheW!

How long to quarantine? right now they are separated, but they can eyeball each other......thru two fences....

The girls can get real snooty. I agree, meanies, they are.

I think you're doing the right thing, they can get used to them by being able to see them, at a distance, that is! Sounds as though you found a great little deal for yourself. Congrats! Keep us posted.

Keep them quarantined for awhile. Learned the hard way one time with some Old English I picked up from someone......
