i went outside to give my chickens fresh water and food and noticed my brooding hen was out of her nest walking around with the others. so went and checked on the eggs, i heard soft peeps/chirps coming from one of the eggs but still no pipping. its be about two days since i first heard the tapping how much longer til baby chicks come?!?

I CANT WAIT!

Is it normal she got up all randomly? shes has moved for 3-4 days/

If you hear peeping, that means they have internally pipped the membrane and are breathing the air from the air sac. They only have so much air in the sac so they will external pip within 24 hours after that. Then they will zip around slowly over the course of a few more hours and out pops a chick. It's a slow process. They internally pip, rest, externally pip, rest, and then attempt to zip, rest, and then push the 2 egg shell halves apart. Then after hatching, they are completely wiped out and sleep constantly.

I also have a broody hatching right now. I could hear them peeping yesterday and one was hatched this morning while the other is half ways done with zipping. This would my first sucessful broody. I hatch chicks in the incubator all the time, but it's getting the mother to hatch that I found difficult.

yes same with me , i am always hatching myself , lol love being mammy , but have my first broody now , candeld her eggs around 8 out of 14 fertile with veins! shes a blackrock

I have one hatched this morning. The four were internally pipped last night but still have not externally pipped yet. I am forcing myself not to "help" at all this time. I have a pheasant baby that was born with issues so I am nursing it right now. It is looking a little better this morning so there is a little hope...

WHOO! well our first broody hatched her first chick thismorning around 6am i think , lovely little thing hatched a day early , and theres more on the way! 14 eggs , 10 are alive heres ivory! her mama's name is Ebony so Ebony and Ivory , as mama's a blackrock , but the father carris a rare gene where all his offspring will be white , even if the mother is a blackrock!
