Hi, I'm just starting a small farm and my flock got attacked, and now I'm trying to rebuild. I could use some help. While I live in NC, I'm interested in trying to get chickens and chicken supplies from elsewhere, if needed and possible.

I'm in NC, in the piedmont area, and I used to just let them free range and bring them in at night--and I had 11, and only have 2 left.

I have two chicken coops--now it only houses the rooster and the hen, but separately. I am desperately trying to increase the flock before the winter so that they have more companions--I really would like to increase to at least 6 hens so that the rooster and be housed with the hens without the rooster over mating with a small number.

I don't allow them to free range as freely now because of the predators, unless I am supervising them--which is not practical for longs lengths of time.

What can you suggest based on this?

If you can't find any to be given away right away Tractor Supply and Rural King sells older chicks cheap (you have to buy 6 or more but they're only 1$ each)I kept my chickens contained until my dogs were trained (2 yrs in the making!) They never go out without them!
 
Thank you!!! I thought about that as well, training a dog to protect them...I like it!

I don't think there's any links or that it's advertised. And not stores do it or have them all the time.
I think it's just when a new shipment is due in and they have left overs from the previous shipment. Kind of a sell to make room deal.

Visit the store physically and speak to the store manager. Leave your name and a number where you can be reached. I bought (6) black Australorps and 4 sapphire gems for only $6 at Rural King 2 yrs ago .
