Well,
My oldest dd Zoe 8, and friend 7 did not fall asleep until 11 pm.
But the birthday girl, Ava 4 conked out at 10. It was really funny to listen to them chatter but I'd go up the stairs as quietly as I could...darn creaky stairs
ha ha ha.... and tell them... "I can heeeeaaaar yooooou." Moms have eyes on the backs of their heads ya know?
Got up and got friend ready for her pick up and then we scooted off to church and came home and the girls were pooped! Big long naps. aaaaaaah. Not even Grandma popping in with her yappy little dog "yap yap yap..." and getting my big dog "wo wo wo wooo" excited woke them up from their nap. whew.
The treasure hunt I led them on with clues... there were 4 "treasures":
I gave them brown bags and had them decorate them with markers to collect their "treasures." I gave them ideas like they could draw a map, pirate ship, fairy's, rainbows...
1)"mountain climbers" lil plastic guys with sticky hands/feet that you throw at a wall and they walk down and I put those by our orange lava lamp...and said something like, "You will find what your looking for when you find the volcano."
2)star suckers with "pixie dust" (sugar) dip that clue went... "Think Tink Think... Tink doesn't wear pink, she wears _____(all the kids said, Green!), follow Tinkerbell where Tink likes to dream." So that would be her bedroom and I scattered the suckers under her bedspread.
3)next was the "enchanted forest" which was Zoe's room with her big pile of stuffed animals I set a red sack with tinkerbell erasers in it and buried it in the toys and set a unicorn stuffed animal propped up on top of the treasure and told them "in the enchanted forest you will find a mystical creature..."
4)last thing was bouncy balls the size of raquet balls that were glow in the dark eye balls and I put those in the pirate ship in the treasure chest. And said something like, "All beware of the crocodiles and pirates too because Captain Hook is hiding something from you."
I got all the treasures at the party store except the suckers I found at
Walmart in the party section.
Oh and the invitations I made I used that drawing paper that's kind of like manilla colored and fuzzy almost? do you remember that drawing paper when you were a kid? Anyway, I had a tablet of that and I googled kids treasure maps and I found a cute one with mermaids and pirate ship and sea serpent... and I had to rip the edges of the paper to make it fit my printer but that was ok because I wanted it jaggedy and beat up looking... printed the map... then I burned the bottom of the paper... I wrote on the paper in different areas, "Please come and share in the magic of Ava's 4th Birthday. when: where: rsvp:..." Then I rolled it in a scroll and tied it with some twine.
We only had 4 to deliver (with households of multiple children we were inviting) and they all live within 5 miles from us so we drove around one day and hand delivered them which made it really exciting for my daughter and her friends. Ava's little friend Breanna 3 yrs was so excited and she was yelling to her mom, "It's a map! It's a map!!"
I bought the wings off
ebay and they were adorable... glittery and really pretty colors... green, blue, purple, and pink and the birthday girl of course wanted the green wings so she was like Tink... she was the only green.
The pirate hook... found at the party store.
It was great fun. I love thinking up party ideas.
