I know at least one is a rooster...

but who? Who are you, who, who, who, who?

Anyway, I have 4 EE's and 4 BO's and I know there's a rooster somewhere in the bunch (I know this because my eggs are all fertile.) I'm pretty sure all the BO's are hens, they all look exactly the same, so I think the culprit is an EE. The problem is that the roosters aren't crowing (yet, I'm sure it'll happen eventually) and that and pretty long tail feathers are the only way I can tell a rooster from a hen. I say roosterS because I think I have at least 2, if not 3, haha. I know for sure one of the EE's is a hen, though, because I have one green egg.

Suspect #3 (I really have no clue, but I'm leaning toward rooster)

And just because, here are the buffs. Only a (somewhat) decent pic on one b/c I couldn't get the other two to get out of their dirt hole. The fourth BO is busily sitting on eggs currently, so I have no question that one is a hen!

Thank you so much for your help!

All 4 of your EEs are definitely pullets/hens. I can't see the BOs well enough to tell, but it sounds like you've identified them as hens.

Are you absolutely positive the eggs are fertile? How do you know?

They look exactly like the fertile eggs here https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=16008 - I even double checked them against store eggs. Also, of the eggs currently being sat on by my broody hen, I'm pretty sure I can see an air sac in one of them.

Also, #2 used to have slightly longer tail feathers, until one of our dogs removed them, I don't know if that would make a difference in IDing it, though. But currently it's tail feathers look exactly like #4, pointy and a little curvy.

I guess it must be one of the buffs, then, lol.

There should be an air sac in both fertile & unfertile eggs. I've heard the white spot is really hard to tell the difference in fertile & unfertile (I've never tried - no roosters here).

I would think you would hear crowing if you had a rooster that was mature enough to mate your hens (and give you fertile eggs).

If you're still sure that you have a rooster, try candling the eggs your broody hen is sitting on in a few days to see if they actually start to develop. If they are fertile, you should see some develop between 3-7 days (depending on how dark your eggs are and how bright your flashlight/candler is) of setting.

Also, post a few side-view, close-up pics of your BOs so that we can see their hackle & sickle feathers. You do not have an EE roo.

I don't think any of my neighbors have chickens. My lovely husband says that maybe I'm just smokin' the kron, lmao. Apparently.

Thanks for the help you guys! I obviously have no idea what I'm talking about.

I'm very happy to know that they're all female, though!
