Hi everyone: I live about 30 minutes south of Kansas City in Stilwell, KS. I would like to meet anyone within driving distance to make new chicken friends. Does anyone live close to me?

Well I dont live to far from you as I live in Blue Mound, its down by Mound City. My DH drives to KS for work. We are basically 82 miles from KC. So I think as far as I know the closest to you...

The only thing I have found is a livestock auction in Archie, MO which if I remember correctly is the first saturday of each month. You can Google Archie, MO and it will pull up info on the sale barn. They have calfs, goats and chickens. Most of the poultry is in cages of more than one bird. When I went they had some polish but no other "fancy" birds. They had one lone white or splash cochin hen that I bid on. I wasn't even sure of her age but my intuition was that she was a young pullet and probably a mutt. About 4 weeks after I got her home she started laying jumbo light tan eggs almost every day! So I don't know why someone put her in the auction, maybe a 4H that didn't work out. She is very sweet and shy and it took her a while to learn to range. Her name is Gracie and I just adore her. Archie Missouri is not far from Harrisonville and is about an hour from me. The only other swap type thing I know about is a guy named Chicken Bob, a retired guy that adopts the Easter chicks that become chickens from the feed store. Chickens are his hobby and he lives in Cleveland MO which is south of KC on the Missouri side. He has a whole network that he can help people find the type they are looking for. I think he does do swap or trade also. If you need any info or would like to come over for a visit sometime let me know!

Hey thanks! I know where Archie is.

My hubby is a Kansas man. He is from Erie. Are you native to Kansas? I was born right here in Nevada. Left town long enough to go to college in Joplin.

We have a small farm (65 acres) outside of town. Hubby is self employed overhead door installer and I am a banker. We have 4 children Anthony is a marine stationed in Okinawa, Meg is at her first year of college, Ben is in 8th grade and Weston is in 2nd.

We bought the farm a few years ago and built our house. Took us about 18 months. This is our first year with livestock. Since March we have acquired 6 calves, a horse, a dog, a mess of cats, 3 ducks, a turkey, 6 guineas and current popluation on chickens is 19.

I love it. I have had some tragic moments but have learned a lot about the critters and don't ever want to be w/o my chickens.

Take care.

Hey Shelly, it sounds like you have a lot of critters and land to take care of for folks working full time jobs too! My husband it retired from the Army and works part time and I am retired and take care of everything around here. We have 6 dogs and 6 chickens. I really want some little goats for our pasture but would need to fence it in and get a barn so that may need to be saved up for. And of course I want more chickens!!! I am 51 and would like to get the farm critters before I am too old to clean barns and trim hooves. One of my neighbors has about 30 Nigerian pygmy goats and has more blue ribbons than anyone in the state. I don't want to show them, just as some pets. Of course I am already planning on some Spring chicks. I would like some Silkies and there is a breeder, Livingston Silkies not far in Lone Jack MO. He won't sell chicks because he wants to keep the show quality birds but he will sell the adult birds that don't grade out. I really want them as chicks so they will be little "lap dogs" like my other hens. Plus don't we all just love those chicks!

Hey everyone.
This is my first post!!!
I live East of KC - Independence, MO and I work in Leawood, KS.
I have Oriental chickens on a 10 acre farm.
Glad to meet you all.

I have been to the Archie sale and that is where I got my first goats...they are unregistered Nigi's I raise goats here in Blue Mound and I have registered Nigerian Dwarfs and unregistered Nigi's also. Some have blue eyes and I have alot of chickens...I ordered my silkie from Cackle hatchery and they are Great. I also got guinneas, and other chickes and it took them 1 day to get here. If you want goats that are pets I have some babies that are about 6 mths old and are such lovers its unreal. I am retired from the Hair business, and hubby works for the Railraod there in KC,KS...he and I transferred here 15 yrs ago from Texas. Lived in the city for yrs then moved here almost 4 yrs ago. We love it here in the country and wouldnt go back. I have cattle, Horses, goats and lots of fowl here on the farm. We go to Nevada on Friday mornings to a small sale and have gotten chicks and duck there. BUt havent went since it got cold...

How far away is Blue Mound from KC? I want some goats so much but need to wait until the pasture is fenced and can afford a small building for them. One of my neighbors is Tiny Tails Farm and they take a lot of blue ribbons from their herd of about 30 Nig. goats. I have to stop myself from going over there and being a pest because I want to visit those darn goats! I would like a doe and a wether and then get the doe bred the next year for kids. I am not sure if I could pay for Tiny Tails goats, I would have to wait for some pet quality.
