I have 12 black autralorps, today I bought a few barred rocks I was putting them in the coop one got away I cannot catch it!! I'm scared it will never come back, she won't know where her new home is I lived on a back road and there's a few farms. Any advice on how to lure back into the yard. I can't even find her now she went into the neighbors woods :(HELP

Welcome! I agree. As a chicken chaser, I have tried. It'll probably be ok. If you are really scared of a critter getting you chicken, though, you can try this. Slowly edge behind the chicken. Go wide. If you think you are far enough, go another 10 feet. Get the chicken between you and the coop door. It would be good to have help. Slowly walk towards the chicken. When it starts noticing you, stop. keep slowly edging towards it, stopping when it notices you. It will edge away from you, hopefully towards the coop. Don't make loud noises or sudden moves. It may work.
Second option. Keep it between you and the coop. Keep an eye on it til it gets dark. It will want to find a place to roost. When it does, you can snatch it in the dark and put it in the coop. Its worth a try.

I would love to try that but I cannot even find her at all now :( I am praying she finds her way back I'm gonna keep the coop door open another hour to see thanks for the great advice

Sorry.

I hope it comes back. How did it get away? If you leave your coop door open, won't the others escape.

I really feel your pain. I was going to be a big goat farmer. I went to the sale and bought about 6 nanny goats. I brought them home and put them in the 2 acre, wooded lot we had. The goat shed was in the middle. All the goats ran around, doing their goaty thing. I put out food at their shed and they found it. Happy goats in the goat pen. I went back to the sale and bought a billy (Needed for , you know, having baby goats to sell) Anyway, I brought it to the pen and let it out, thinking it would see the nanny goats and fit right in. He ran down the fence, past the girls (within 10' of them) out an unseen hole in the back of the fence (it was like he KNEW it was there) and I haven't seen him since. It was a $105 Billy. I my mouth dropped. I spent 2 weeks combing the woods looking for that goat. Never saw it. I'm out of the goat business now. Ha.

It'll be ok. You still have some good chickens.

I was letting my other chickens back into the coop, they go right I. When I opened the coop,it got out I was going to keep the new ones in there for a few days so the knew where to go after free ranging, that theory went right down the drain I still have a few other new ones that are doing good I'm hoping tomorrow it sees my flock and runs back over with them. (Fingers crossed)

I will say a prayer for you and her and that she returns safely to you. I have no ideas to offer you. But don't chase her. If she does survive and find her way back home, let her get comfortable in the yard with food and water before you try and catch her.

Good luck and I really hope she can find her way home.
