This morning, when I let out my girls and saw that my 7 year old white leghorn hen, Snowy had passed away last night. She was the friendliest, sweetest girl. She ruled the roost, and all hens looked up to her or ran away from her :lau. She even laid a tiny, fairy egg every 2 weeks or so. I am still very sad but just happy she lived the best life and had no pain.
First picture is Snowy (middle), Bluebell (back) and Lollipop (front). They were her favourites :)

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I had two leghorns, Prudence and Vera, who were the first chickens I ever hatched (in my upstairs bathroom). They were so friendly, and honestly, aside from one hen called Strawberry, the only hens who I feel I can say it seemed like they LIKED me. (The others range from "I will tolerate the bringer of food" to "Run! RUN!!!").

I lost both Prudence and Vera in the space of a year a few years back.

It's so hard to lose a favorite. It's wonderful that you have such fond memories of her and that her passing was peaceful.

I am sorry for your loss, most of us have been through this and I don't think it's ever easy.

As with our dogs and cats, over 40 years, it's so much easier when they die in sleep than having to make "The" decision. I still cry with each one's passing. Golly, I'm tearing up now thinking of them.

A beautiful girl.

Makes me teary eyed thinking about my lost girls.... 😢
