I've been reading different topics here on back yard chickens for several months and found a question that I knew the answer to, so I decided to join so that I could post it.
My first pet when I was just 6 years old was a beautiful black hen that followed me home from my aunts house. She let me keep it. I loved that chicken, so when I got old enough and out on my own I kept a few from time to time.
Mt husband and I just bought a house in the country so we started a small flock about 5 months ago.
My motive is for pets and eggs. We are vegetarian.
We have 3 saphire gems, 3 australorps, 2 buff brahmas and a red hen that the neighbors gave us. No Roosters at this time.
They all have names and we adore them. We are already getting a couple eggs.
