Hi there! We started this crazy chicken thing on Easter Sunday when we brought home a newly hatched chick who wasn't doing well with the rest of the chickies. We fell in love, decided it needed friends, and poof! We became backyard chicken people. 
This site has been a wonderful source of information for us.
I'm not sure what breeds we have... one I think is a plymouth rock (Bernadette Peepers, till we found out she is a he so now he goes by Bernie), one is grey with pouffy feathers on her head (we call her Bonnie), and one with white, cream, and reddish brown feathers (that's Betsy).
We have been anxiously awaiting our first egg, and one of ours finally laid one today. I heard her making all sorts of noise this morning, but couldn't find anything... tonight as I was readying the coop for bedtime I found an egg in the corner (on the opposite end from the nesting box). I can't wait till tomorrow!

from Ohio. So glad to have you aboard. Congrats on your first egg. You might need a fake egg to put in the next box so they get the idea to lay in the box.
