I have 11 "pullets" that I bought at the local feed store and they are now approx 20 weeks old, and I have one grown hen that was given to me who is already laying. None of my girls to my knowledge have ever been exposed to a rooster, however the last few mornings that I've cracked open my breakfast I've noticed that momma D's eggs are fertile, one had even started to develop. I haven't heard any crowing or have seen any "mounting" from my crowd and I practically live in the run with my girls =0).

I don't see any obvious signs that one of my gals might be an imposter - am I blind?

There are no males in those pictures. Your sig line says you also have "1 Barred Rock, 1 Dominicker", but I dont see those in the pictures. Do you still have those?

Why do you say one started to develop? Why do you think they were fertile?

I think you may have gotten an egg with a meat spot in it. You have all pullets in those photos. Also, a white spot doesn't mean fertility. All eggs have those. The spot must have a circle around it (bullseye) to show fertility.

Maybe you could open one and photograph the yolk without glare so we can see what you're seeing.

Here is a good thread with pics of fertile vs infertile yolks.

Speckledhen,

Thank you for posting the link about the yolks. Today's egg that I collected from Momma D did not have the bulls eye , so for me that's good news.

I totally love this forum - Chick peeps are the most friendliest & helpful peeps I know!

Pretty pullets!!

I think Speckledhen hit the nail on the head. It is a common mistake to confuse a blood spot or a little speck of meat with fertility. Can't see an imposter in your photos. You are right...Chicken people are the best!!!
