Help. I pulled an egg out of the incubator that I thought was dead. Thick red ring, no veins and wasn't moving. They were on day 12. I started to crack it open, starting at the air pocket to see what might have gone wrong. When I got it to where I could see the chick there was good vein work and the chick was starting to move.

Is there anything I can do to save it? It's in my incubator that has the eggs standing up so it's still warm and I didnt damage any veins.

The ring has never done me wrong until now to signify a dead egg. Please help

Can you get pics? You can possibly save it. We need good pics though. I just did an experiment a couple months ago that you can "replicate" to try and save this chick.

It is a turkey egg in case that matters

Oh, good! It's a pretty long thread.

Spoiler

Unfortunately the chick didn't make it. I think it was in part because I didn't turn it after day 7, and it was in a sketchy MagicFly incubator. I'd love to try again in my NR 360 some time though.

Itll be interesting to see if this one survives. Thank you for the info

The vein network looks quite "skimpy" to me, it might have a bacterial infection already which caused the blood ring, and might just still be hanging in there. Don't be upset if it doesn't make it, he looks pretty weak. No harm in trying of course. I would cut a square of saran wrap and stretch it over the opening, then secure it with a rubber band.

Okay. Yea I had put saran wrap on it after the pic while waiting. I'm usually not upset with eggs not going well unless it's something expensive. Like my pheasant eggs XD.

That's perfect then. Yeah, I'm the same way too. I don't like losing eggs, but there's really nothing I can do about it. I try my best to provide the perfect conditions for them, and anything else is out of my hands.
What happened with your pheasant eggs? I've heard pheasants are tough to hatch.

I got 9 eggs and already down to 5. 2 were infertile. For some reason the eggs I got this past two rounds with shipping have messed up thier air sacs even with letting them sit for 24 hours. The 5 are looking really good right now
