hello, I have a New Hampshire Red that has been bald on her back and tail since oct. 2012...and it is now...May 2012...i need a cure so she can finally get her feathers back. She started with her molt, and never grew her feathers back. She's laying eggs instead of growing feathers. I know there are tricks to get hens to lay eggs again...is there a way to get them to grow their feathers? She really needs to stop laying eggs, and put all her energy into growing feathers. She has been covered up by a chicken saddle, and also i have sewn on pieces of fabric to cover her tail...it's been a long time since she's been able to not wear any coverings...so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I also have been giving her mealworms every day and other great forms of protein...but all she does it put out one or two feathers...i think since she's been a steady layer since day one...she's only concentrating on egg production....

any thought???

Hens go into a molt in response to shortening day length. Is she being picked at by other chickens? Usually naked parts on hens are the result of either too much attention from the rooster or feather picking by flockmates.
