I have a chick who is stuck in the bottom of his shell, this guy pipped yesterday morning, and I had to assist by taking the top off and wetting the inner membrane with bacitracin. He got his upper body out but the side of the egg is fused to him. He is weak and can't break himself free...I am doubting his survival and wondering what I should do...if he is suffering I would like to end his misery but don't know how...and I'm a bit on edge.

I have had to assist 3 chicks in this batch (my first hatch) and I'm pretty sure my humidity played a part...I had it at 65% during lockdown but I think it could have been higher and these chicks may not have had so much trouble.

Can you please let me know what to do...thanks

Is the membrane stuck to the chick? Wet it carefully with a q-tip. Just rub it over and over and the egg fluid will soften up and you should be able to get the membrane off quick. If the chick is really weak dribble some sugar water on it's beak, just watch out you don't get any on it's nostrils. Good luck!

I ended up taking him in my hand and running warm water over him, took about 5 minutes but I got everything off and put him back in the bator...I have another chick that has egg gunk on him that I will wash off after dinner...I'll let them both puff up then put them in the brooder...I have to make a boot for the first chick...now that he is out of the shell he is chirping and going nuts, lol
