I bought a flock from a neighbour and it more than doubles my current free range flock. Currently my hens just free range in my calf barn but with adding that many new hens I feel I need an actual coop. My husband refuses to help build or design it as he didn't buy the new hens so I need some help with plans and something very simple to build. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Theres lots of designs of coop designs on this site that would provide a good basis for seeing what you may actually want to do - often with lists of materials and estimated costs. I will soon be moving house and will have to build a coop that I can remove at a later date. Im looking into using a large canvas tent as the shelter area with a protected roosting area inside made of pvc piping. Im not sure how well it will work, but we will see...

Good luck!

If you want to build your own there are to a of coop designs.
If you want to buy a premade one it costs a pretty penny.
A few sites to look at urbancoopcompany.com, CCOnly.com, urban farmers.com

Even if you just look at the sites to get an idea on what would work for your coop

I personally like cconly.com site and designs poop trays are so nice to have!

Build your basic shed about 12' x 16'....that's pretty simple, if you know how to build, or can buy one and retrofit for chickens.
