The town I live in does not allow chickens. I am on a mission to get my local ordinance changed.

I will be meeting with the Board of Works in a few weeks and I am putting together my "Case" on why we should be allowed to own a few chickens. I've got the basics such as no roo's, sanitation, coop location, limit of chickens......

I would welcome any other advice that would be good to present with my "Case"

Thanks!

Hi! Maybe some of the information/resources on this page could help you:

http://groups.google.com/group/chic...ces?_done=/group/chicago-chicken-enthusiasts?

One other thing that matters here in Chicago is the no-slaughter rule. Chickens can only be kept as pets/for eggs; they cannot be killed for meat on unlicensed premises. Personally, I think this is a good thing, as it (in theory) keeps people unfamiliar with the proper slaughtering process from attempting it and botching it. If it were legal to kill them for meat, then I think it would open a whole new set of problems with sanitation, pests, diseases, etc.

Good luck! I hope you can make them understand that chickens are no more of a nuisance than cats or dogs, and hey, chickens provide you with eggs!
